The promenade at Viareggio
A stroll along the promenade at Viareggio is not to be missed. You'll find an eclectic mix of architectural styles - from art nouveau and art deco through to mock neo-classical; all of this was started in the 1920's when the original wooden bagni were burnt down.
Beaches
All along the coast there are beautiful beaches to be seen and enjoyed at. Forte dei Marmi, Lido di Camaiore and Lido di Pietrasanta are just a few of the names to be mentioned each offering varying amenities and services (pools, restaurants, waiter service, etc.).
Wine making
The coastal area around Viareggio isn't particularly suited for wine making. Wine is made a bit further north, around the Cinque Terre, but most wine you're likely to be served in a Viareggio restaurant comes from Montecarlo, near Lucca. Also, different wine making competitions and wine-tasting take place here.
Fashing - Carnavale di Viareggio
Viareggio is every year the home to an enormous carnival - the largest in Europe - Carnavale di Viareggio also known as Fashing. It takes place every February and has unique and indescribable atmosphere which is worth to visit.
Torre del Lago and Puccini's villa
Be sure not to miss seeing Torre del Lago and Puccini's villa as well as the large series of picturesque lakes there - boat excursions are numerous and enjoyable.
